Ham House, Part 3

I was very pleased to find that some of the below stairs area was open to visitors, which were in such a contrast to the regal and lofty rooms above.

The Still House, where the Duchess made medicines. There were all sorts of fascinating remedies on display here.

I’m still wearing sandals even though it’s the second week of October!

The Kitchen.

Another very interesting room, the centrepiece being a massive long table upon which there were lots of foodstuffs with the invitation to touch them and have a closer look.

How to keep greedy buggers at bay!

The range.

Animal-shaped biscuits on sticks.

These were too pretty to eat anyway!

Record-breaking gourd?

Servant’s quarters.

No idea what this is, possibly for hanging game?

Interesting....

The Beer Cellar.

Servant’s quarters.

The room where the servants would have eaten their meals – very ‘Downton Abbey’! Sadly not open, but I was able to take a couple of photographs through the glass window in the door.

The Duchess’s Bathroom.

Bath/shower controls.

The bath.

Final glimpse of the servant’s quarters.
