Woodchester Mansion, Part 1

After spending last night in Stroud with my hosts Chris and Pete, following my lecture at Stroud Camera Club, they recommended a visit to Woodchester Mansion. Having seen my talk on urban exploration, Chris knew how much I would appreciate visiting this never-completed Gothic manor, and she was right! What an absolutely fascinating place, it was like visiting an historic building site, I have never seen anything like this before and wandered round in a state of delight taking photographs. For more information see here: www.woodchestermansion.org.uk

How ‘deeply irritating’ (meant to be a massive understatement) for new owner William Leigh, to completely demolish the existing Georgian house (which was probably rather lovely), only to run out of money before being able to complete its replacement!

My first view of Woodchester Mansion, after the 3/4 of a mile walk down the drive from the car park.

A first look at this magnificent Gothic interior.

Had to take advantage of this mirror (meant for easy viewing of the chapel ceiling) for a quick selfie!
