Clandon Park, Part 1

I paid a visit to Clandon Park, after seeing an item on Facebook about the restoration work going on there following the 2015 fire. I first visited this beautiful house many years ago, when I was a member of the National Trust, and although I didn’t take any photographs (how is that possible?!) I did like it very much.

The work is ongoing and will obviously take quite a long time, but the NT is working in conjunction with the architect Allies & Morrison to create a new building from what is left. They won’t ever be able to bring it back to what it was, but it will still be an interesting place for people to visit.

Hinemihi, the Maori meeting house.

The entire building is encased in scaffolding and protective covering.

Hard hats and reflective vests must be worn to visit, as the house is affectively a building site.

These walkways have been constructed to safely guide visitors through the building.
